About Hildá

Hildá Länsman is joik-singer and songwriter from Utsjoki, the northernmost municipality of Finland. Having grown up with the ancient traditions of reindeer husbandry, handicraft (duodji) and yoik (luohti), she connects her background with contemporary world music and academic studies in the Global Music programme at Sibelius Academy. Hildá has performed widely both in Finland and internationally and is standing out with her uniquely ethereal, shrilling, growling and clear voice. She is a proud upholder of the Sámi culture and joik-tradition.

Hildá Länsman is the front-figure of several critically acclaimed Sámi music groups; Solju, VILDÁ, Gájanas and collaboration project with Tuomas Norvio.

Solju´s album Uvjamuohta (Powder Snow) was awarded as the International Indigenous Recording of the Year 2023 by Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards in Canada. Solju was awarded Folk Music Creator of the Year 2019 at the Finnish Ethnogala, and an award in the Genre Free category by The Finnish Music Publishers Association in 2018. Solju’s debut album Ođđa Áigodat (New Times) was also the winner of the The Indigenous Music Awards (IMA) – the Best International Indigenous Release 2019.

VILDÁ’s debut album Vildaluodda – Wildprint was published in April 2019 by Bafe’s Factory. The debut album of VILDÁ was selected as one of the Best Albums of 2019 by Song Lines Magazine. In 2021, VILDÁ won the MME Talent Awards for contemporary European music awarded by the European Commission. The duo has toured internationally in countries such as Spain, France, Chile, Sweden, Denmark, and Canada.

Gájanas released their debut album on the Sámi National Day February 6th, 2021. The album was awarded as the International Indigenous Artist-Group-Recording of the Year at the Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards 2021 in Canada. Gájanas topped the charts of Worldbeat Canada Top 30, and was first on the list with the single “Diamántadulvvit”.

Currently, Hildá is immersed in the creation of a pioneering debut album that is set to redefine the boundaries of Sámi music. The album will fuse artistic electronic joik, poetry, and dance music, resulting in an unforgettable sound. The release of Hildá's and Tuomas Norvio's debut album will take place in 2024
