Solju

Solju is a band where mother Ulla Pirttijärvi and daughter Hildá Länsman create a dialogue between traditional and modern Sámi culture, while intertwining connections to a diverse range of pop and global music.

In Solju's music, the Northern Sámi joiks and songs playfully merge, weaving enchanting soundscapes. Ulla and Hildá, the front figures of Solju, proudly showcase their roots and the nuanced and invigorating expressive power that stems from joiking. Lively, earthy, vibrant, unique, yet also ethereal and evocative are words used by the artists themselves to characterize their music.

The compositions depict the everyday experiences of young Sámi women in contemporary times, as well as narratives inspired by traditional Sámi ways of life, stories, and worldview. In Solju's music, one can sense the tangible warmth and intimacy of a campfire's glow, as well as the resilience and perseverance shaped and demanded by the Arctic nature.

Gájanas

Gájanas or “echo” is a band that plays Northern Sámi ethno-progressive music. The members of the band are Hildá Länsman, Nicholas Francett, Kevin Francett and Erkki Feodoroff. The group comes from the top of Finland, Inari-Utsjoki area and has been nominated as a band of the year by the famous folk music festival Kaustinen.

Echoes of Sámi tradition encounter present moment and form a colourful combination in the music of Gájanas. One can also hear a dialog between the traditional and modern Sámi music. In addition it emphasizes the strong nature connection of the Sámi people. Different genres combine and create something new and unique.

VILDÁ

VILDÁ is an original blend of mystical joiks, grooving rhythms and improvisation. Inspiration has been sought from Sámi people’s strong connection to nature, Nordic folk music and present-day popular music. The result is a unique soundscape that takes the listener to a fascinating journey to the Sámi land, the wild and vast landscapes under the arctic hills and frosty winds – with a girly charm.
